Today I Tweeted this:
Having a sense of purpose gives us a road map to live our life. Without it, we’re just checking off items on one big to-do list.
Knowing your sense of purpose gives you the choice to live life how you want it. Since this is the time of year everyone works on goals and resolutions — how about adding ‘What’s my sense of purpose?’
Look at the goals or resolutions you’ve created for 2010. Are they in alignment with your purpose? Here are three questions you can ask yourself as you create your own Sense of Purpose statement:
- What is my unique contribution?
- Do my goals articulate my own vision or somebody else’s?
- What brings me the greatest joy?
My sense of purpose is to bring out the best in other people — which is my goal in my coaching practice.
Your jobs may change throughout life, but your sense of purpose does not. Are you living yours?
Why the gardner photo with this post? Besides really liking this photo by Judo_dad1953, it’s a reminder that to attain our goals, we must tend to them every day, just as if we’re growing a garden.
