Blizzard Buster

by Lisa

This may be a familiar sight to many of you .  About now you just might be getting a little tired of dealing with the snow and all the shoveling that accompanies it!   I live in the southwest, so I’m  experiencing it only through photographs and conversations with friends and colleagues in the deep freeze.

My friend, Eileen, who lives back east, told me that after she tired of marathon movie and TV watching and couldn’t concentrate on a book, but before complete boredom set in, she thought of an exercise we discussed some time ago. No, not yoga or pilates — a writing exercise.

The Story Exercise

Eileen is imagining what she really wants to do with her life –  leaving the corporate world and starting a business she’s  passionate about. While Eileen has climbed the ranks at her current employer and is a senior executive, she feels like something is missing. She keeps coming back to her business idea and can’t get it out of her head.  She’s actually done quite a bit of research, planning, saving and pining for the business. What it comes down to, she says, is fear.

“Will I really be successful? What if I’m not?”

So with the blizzard shutting her inside, she writes her story. That is, she imagines herself creating and building the new business. She gives it a name and a place and satisfied clients. She puts herself right smack in the story and through her visualization her business comes alive on paper.

It feels real to her — and she and it are a real success!
